Kuldiga Seminar

KuldĪgas ebreju kopienas vēsture un likteņi holokausta laika

The Kuldiga Jewish Community during the Shoah.

From 25th to 31st of July 2008 in Kuldiga, Latvia.

Never before the words holocaust and remembrance were used. It seems to be hip. In these times, when eye witnesses are dying out, the later generations found a certain interest in the history, but most just as a history, not as a personal threat and necessity to deal with. Schwimmer takes the risk to come to Latvia as Germans, with a background of western politicisation. We want to deal with the so called much more advanced approach of memorizing in the West, analyzing the eastern view and the western actions, to come to questions of representation of the happenings of the Shoah, and the role it plays today and could play.

The seminar and workshop will be held by art historian and former landscape architect of Kuldiga Agnese Kusmane, by sociologist Mike Hartwig from Berlin, and by the curator and artist Sven Eggers, also from Berlin.

The number of participants is restricted to 20. Still some places are available.

No entrance fee. We can offer free accommodation and food.
